Thorniewood ward, as Viewpark and Tannochside is known officially, has almost 16 thousand inhabitants. It is situated west of the Rolling Barrell roundabout and stretches down to the Lucy Brae, past Birkenshaw.

The Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation identifies small area concentrations of multiple deprivation across all of Scotland in a consistent way. The SIMD is presented at community (data zone level) enabling small pockets of deprivation to be identified.

This map shows the datazones in this Thorniewood that are within the most deprived (worst 20%) communities nationally.

Each community is ranked according to income and employment deprivation education, training and skills, housing, crime and access to services (domains). Greater weight is given to the income and employment domains. This Scottish Government SIMD link will give you further information about the methodology used in the SIMD.

We use the SIMD as well as other socio-economic data to build up a picture of characteristics of the population in each ward. These are presented in the general profiles of each ward within this area of the website.
